Wednesday May 8, 2019, Niagara-on-the-Lake – It is with great honour and excitement that The Exchange Brewery was awarded a Gold Medal this past weekend, at the 2019 Canadian Brewing Awards, in Toronto, On.
GOLD: Throwback: Belgian Table Beer (Session Ale Category)
ABV 4.5% | IBU 27 | SRM 4.
Hops: El Dorado, Simcoe, Southern Cross, Strisselspalt. Dry Hopped with Citra and Melon hops.
This beer is small and complex. Aged 4 months in barrels with brettanomyces and dry hopped with Citra and Melon hops.
“Back in the day, my friend Kaleb Longworth (Head Brewer at Jolly Pumpkin) and I were avid homebrewers. We brewed on weekends after 60-hour work-weeks in legit breweries. Sounds crazy? It was. We shirked our real job responsibilities to brew this table beer with a more tart and hoppy twist on the beer style. Brewed with brett, barrels and other things we love.” – Sam Maxbauer, Head Brewer.
“We love interesting beers that are full of flavours – so winning a Gold Medal in the Session Ale Category makes us proud. Low ABV beers can still offer a great tasting experience and we think our Throwback is the perfect example of this. Sessionable but complex and delicious!” – Robin Ridesic, CEO
Throwback bottles (750ml) are currently available for sale at The Exchange Brewery’s bottle shop (7 Queen Street) and in kegs for licensees. Keep a close watch on the brewery’s social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) to see when it will be back on tap in the brewery’s tasting room.
